Arden’s constant eating has always been a source of amusement, but this past week things have gotten ridiculous. To give you just a glimpse of what she’s able to put away at the tender age of 13 months, we made a list of everything she ate this past Sunday:

( And yes, that’s corn on the cob in the photo…)

Breakfast:

3 slices pumpkin bread

4 oz apricot mango greek yogurt

1 oz pomegranate greek yogurt

Elevensies:

1 handful shredded cheese

1 oz watermelon chunks

2 Tbs. cottage cheese

4 oz pureed rasberries & pears

4 oz pureed winter squash

Pre-Lunch Snack:

Snack trap (about 1/2 cup) full of Cheerios

1/4 cup green peas

Lunch:

2 Tbs. sweet corn

1 handful shredded cheese

1/2 cup homemade mashed potatoes

1/4 cup Cuban style black beans

A few freeze-dried strawberries

1/4 cup spanish rice

Pre-Dinner Snack:

Snacktrap full of multigrain crackers

Snacktrap full of organic cracker and cheese sandwiches

Dinner:

1 oz watermelon chunks

2 oz spinach and potato puree

2 avocado slices

1 shredded beef mini-taco

1/4 cup mac and cheese w/ ground buffalo

All of this was paired with generous gulps of water, whole milk, and breast milk.

Phew!

Is it any wonder that her “first word” was the sign for “eat”? She gives the sign first thing when she wakes up in the morning and after naps, and about every hour and a half after that.

We added some snapshots from the first half of June here:

As you’ll be able to tell from the photos, one of Arden’s new obsessions is a teal fabric tunnel from Ikea… the best $6 we ever spent!

Enjoy!

New Developments

June 3, 2008 8:40 am

Arden welcomed her top two front teeth this weekend. Their arrival was slow and quite painful and caused Mama and Daddy to lose a lot of sleep, but we’re all glad that they’re finally in.

Along with her new teeth, Arden’s developed quite a vocabulary lately. We’ll try and post some video clips of her talking if we manage to catch it on tape. (Technically our video camera records to a hard drive, but you knew what we meant.)

Words:

  • Dog – pronounced “gahk”
  • Mama & Dada – these sometimes end up with three or more syllables (”mamama”), especially when she’s excited.
  • Uh-oh – usually said when she drops something, regardless of whether or not it was really an accident…
  • Duck – pronounced “gack”, but distinguishable by the trained parental ear from dog (”gahk”).

She’s also quite the mimic and likes to copy sounds like the squeak made when we clean glass surfaces, or the animal noises we use when reading books. Her favorite is the sound a monkey makes (oo-oo-ah-ah).

Gestures:

  • Sign for “eat.” (One of her favorite activities.)
  • Sign for “more.” (Seriously, the kid can put it away. She once ate half a kid’s meal at Outback Steakhouse and those are supposed to feed kids up to 10 years old. When we have another child I’ll probably need to get a second job just to put food on the table…)
  • Points to nose when asked and working on locating eyes and toes.
  • Waves bye-bye and hi.
  • Loves to clap. Will do it upon request and anytime anyone else is clapping.
  • Working on both high and low fives.
